If your first appointment is for an isolated examination, the nature and extent of the problem is determined and treatment options are discussed during this initial appointment.

If your first appointment is for a comprehensive examination, the doctor will study your examination data and your X-rays to reach a diagnosis. A treatment plan will then be formulated and will be reviewed with you during a second appointment, the treatment conference.

Please be sure to bring any X-rays you may have been given (whether isolated or comprehensive exam), as a diagnosis is not possible without them.

If you normally take antibiotic pre-medications for cleanings, please pre-medicate for your examination. Pre-medication is normally required for those patients diagnosed with mitral-valve prolapse, rheumatic fever or a heart murmur. Artificial body parts, pins or joints, such as hip or knee replacements may also require pre-medication. Please call your physician if you are unsure whether to pre-medicate.

If you have dental insurance, please bring your dental insurance card. Basic information such as the insured's name, social security number, employer and group number are necessary to file for your benefits. Some insurance companies require referrals from your general dentist in order to receive coverage for examinations and treatment. Please call your insurance company for your specific benefit information.
