Course Description:

Implant dentistry has been extensively developed since the first application of dental implants by Dr. Branemark during the 60s. In today’s modern dentistry, more and more patients are seeking for dental implants to replace their missing teeth with high expectation for pleasing outcome more than just the functional success of osteointergration. Therefore, in additional to hard tissue augmentation, soft tissue management is often an essential and key element in variety of conditions to achieve esthetic, function and longevity. This presentation will be focused to:

  • Understand the characteristics of the periodontium around nature teeth and dental implants
  • Assess the most recent evidences for soft tissue management around dental implants
  • Discuss a variety of different clinical situations requiring soft tissue augmentation with different surgical techniques
  • Explain the decision-making process for different treatment options
  • Outcome and long-term maintenance considerations

Dr. Teresa Chanting Sun
Taipei, Taiwan

Dr. Sun graduated from dental School at China Medical University(CMU), Taichung, Taiwan in 2009. After graduation, she enrolled in a General Residency program at CMU (2009-2010). She practiced dentistry in Taipei, Taiwan for 2 years (2010-2012) before she joined the postgraduate periodontal specialty program. In 2015, she received her Advanced Education Certificate and Master of Science degree in Periodontology from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Boston (2012-2015).

Since 2015, Dr. Sun practices as a specialist limited in periodontology and implantology at Mackay Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan. She is also a clinical instructor and lecturer in the Department of Periodontology at National Defense School of Dentistry, Taipei, Taiwan. Dr. Sun is a Diplomate of both the American and Taiwanese Board of Periodontology. She enjoys teaching, publishes clinical research papers and lectures nationally and internationally on periodontology and implantology. In recent years, she further expands her clinical and research focus into digital implant dentistry and was awarded for a scholarship from the International Team of Implantology (ITI) in Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, USA from 2019 to 2020.

She has been recognized as a standout clinician and successfully won the 1st prized of the Perio Contest 2018 in Europerio 9 after competing with 137 worldwide submitted clinical cases in the field of periodontology. In year 2020, she was awarded for the Osteology Case Award for the best clinical presentation in Osteology Virtual symposium USA.
